Donna D. Clark

Diane Donna Clark, age 77, of Platteville, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Southwest Health Center in Platteville. She was born on February 15, 1938, in Platteville, the daughter of Donald and Georgia (Wedige) Clark. Diane graduated from Platteville High School and furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught for two years in Janesville before coming back to Platteville where she taught English for over 30 years at Platteville High School. After helping her mother and aunt in Wediges Badger Bar for many years, Diane became a partner and then sole owner. Wediges Badger Bar was founded in 1906 by her grandfather, George Wedige. Diane enjoyed telling the history of the bar and often worked six days a week with very long hours. She enjoyed traveling, exploring new restaurants and visiting green houses. Diane also enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved her adopted family and her two cats, Peter and Callie.

Survivors include her special friend and companion, Kevin Cardin; her adopted family, the Cardins: Helen, Dennis, Drew (Chrissy), Teela (Tim) Heiring and their son, Ridge, Teanna, Tasha, Paul Tyler, and numerous cousins, friends and patrons.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents and other relatives.

Funeral Services were held on Friday, June 12, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Homes & Cremation Services in Platteville with Pastor Jeffrey Pedersen officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Family and friends called on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Harold Clark

Hattie M. Clark

Hattie M. Clark, age 98, of Lancaster, formerly of Mt. Hope, died on Sunday, October 18, 2009, at the Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster. She was born on August 26, 1911, in Fennimore Township, the daughter of Harry and Minnie (Pollman) McGraw. Hattie graduated from Fennimore High School and furthered her education at the Teachers Training School. She taught for two years in Castle Rock. On September 30, 1931, Hattie was united in marriage to John R. Clark at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Fennimore and Mt. Hope area for many years before retiring. She was very active in the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir for many years and was the church secretary for thirty-one years. Hattie enjoyed working outside and gardening.

Survivors include her daughters: Rosemary (Neil) Kuenster, Lancaster; Sharon (John) Fassbender, Middleton; Loris (Charles) Paulus, Bloomington; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Clark, Prairie du Chien; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, John, Hattie was preceded in death by an infant son, Harry, son, Royce Clark, son-in-law, Walter Yager; two granddaughters, Amy Moris and Vonda Clark, two grandsons, Ryan Yager and Brett Yager; and her brothers, Ernest, Eric, Harry, Harold, and Albert and her sister, Hazel.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial was in Prairie Cemetery, Fennimore. Friends called on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster assisted the family.

David G. Clements

David G. Clements, age 64, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at UW Hospitals in Madison, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 9, 1945, in Lancaster, the son of J. Wilbert and Martha (Wanezek) Clements. David graduated from Lancaster High School in 1964. He served in the United States Air Force from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1973. David served his country in Viet Nam and Germany. He later graduated from Southwest Technical College. On September 9, 1973, David was united in marriage to Linda Hartman. David was employed with Grant County for fourteen years as a milk tester. He was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 2820 and the William Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 of Lancaster. David enjoyed a good card game at Zippys every morning and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid Badger, Packer, Brewer and Lancaster Special Olympics fan.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Clements; his children: Michael (Jennifer) Clements and Cynthia Clements, all of Lancaster; three grandchildren: Taylor, Alexis, and Johnathan Clements, all of Lancaster; his brother, Roger (Joan) Clements, Alpena, MI; his sister-in-law, Kristine (Tim) Smythe and his brothers-in-law, Charles (Jerolyn) Hartman and Paul (Laura) Hartman, all of Potosi.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Donald, and his mother and father-in-law, Arno and Clara (Udelhoven) Hartman.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 16, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church with Father William Seipp officiating. Arlene J. Clifton

Arlene J. Clifton, age 81, of Potosi, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. She was born on January 23, 1931, in Waterloo Township, the daughter of Arlie and Sylvia (Knoke) Nickel. Arlene attended Elmdale Country School and Lancaster High School. On February 5, 1949, Arlene was united in marriage to Carson Clifton at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA, where they renewed their vows on their fiftieth anniversary. After their marriage, the couple farmed thirteen years in South Lancaster Township and then moved to the home her father built and farmed in Waterloo Township. Arlene enjoyed helping on the farm and would often drive tractor. Arlene helped with the catering at the Lancaster Country Club; she was a cook at the Grant County Jail for eight years, provided homecare at Homeward Bound for three years and enjoyed babysitting for the neighbor children. Arlene also enjoyed cooking, crafts, painting, spending time in her flower garden, canning, birds and all wildlife. Her greatest joy was her family and her grandchildren. Arlene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon and an Elder.

Survivors include her loving husband of sixty-three years, Carson Clifton; their children: Darwin (Beth) Clifton, Potosi; Diane (Dennis) Wieland, Peosta, IA; Dixie Lea Clifton, Hazel Green; David (Rochelle) Clifton, Potosi; Dawn (Al) Mergen, Bloomington; eleven grandchildren; nineteen and one on the way great-grandchildren; her brother and sisters: LaVern (Mary Alice) Nickel, Potosi; Phyllis (Robert) Eck, Lancaster; Donna (Phil) Nickson, Yakima, WA; her sister-in-law, Helen (Gene) McDonough, Lancaster; her beloved dog, Lucy; other relatives and many friends.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents and a step-granddaughter, Sheri.

Patricia Collins

Patricia A. "Pat" Collins, age 78, of Bagley, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Fennimore with her loving family by her side. She was born March 14, 1938, in Livingston, the daughter of Peter and Elsie (Radtke) Whitish. Pat graduated from Livingston High School. On February 24, 1962, she was united in marriage to Larry W. Collins at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fennimore. After their marriage, Pat helped Larry on the farm and raised her family. In 1981, they moved to Bagley and she was employed at Bloomington Meats until her retirement in April 2013. Pat enjoyed crocheting, reading, spending time with her grandchildren and keeping up with their activities.

Survivors include her children: Peter Collins; Rochester, MN; Paul Collins, Bloomington; Mary Ann Collins, Lancaster; Linda (Rod) Redman, Prairie du Chien; nine grandchildren: Mathew (Erica), Kristin, Evan, and Drew Collins; Samantha and Jordan (fiance Rachel Reuter) Redman; Tyler and Janyl Kozelka and Tristen Kautman; a brother, Jim (Laurie) Whitish, Fennimore; a brother-in-law, Dennis (Dawne) Collins, Mt Ida; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; a brother, Joe Whitish; sisters: Mary (Max) Dersch and Margaret Wilhelm.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery, Mt. Hope. A Celebration of Life was on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the church basement with a 4:45 p.m. parish rosary. Charlotte E. Cook

Charlotte E. Cook, age 96, of Lancaster, died Monday, October 08, 2012 at the Lancaster Care Center. Charlotte was born on September 4, 1916 in Potosi, the daughter of Harry and Rosa (Crapp) Case. She graduated from Lancaster High School and furthered her education at Platteville Normal School, later teaching rural and elementary school in the Lancaster area. On September 11, 1938, Charlotte was united in marriage to Charles Cook. After their marriage the couple, resided in Potosi and Lancaster, prior to moving to Florida in 1974. Charlotte was employed with Delbert Fritz Insurance as a secretary for several years. She enjoyed gardening and baking. Charlotte was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster.

Charlotte is survived by her children: Janet Keepers, Tucson, AZ; Gerald (LeAnn) Cook, Delafield; Jeffrey (Cheryl) Cook, Tampa, FL; nine grandchildren; her sisters: Margaret Vesperman, Lancaster and Myrna Wepking, Lancaster.

In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband on November 17, 2001; her brothers: Lloyd (Hazel) Case, Joseph (Marcella) Case, and Wendell (Dorothy) Case; and two brothers-in-law, Donald Vesperman and Carson Wepking.

Dorothy Cooley

Dorothy I. Cooley, age 92, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster. She was born on July 3, 1921, the daughter of Henry and Wealthy (Retallick) Robinson. The oldest of ten children, she spent her life in Grant County. After leaving grade school at age thirteen, Dorothy worked as a household helper and babysitter for various families. On May 16, 1939, she was united in marriage to Stanley Cooley at the Methodist Parsonage in Lancaster. Two children were born to this union: Stephen and Evelyn. Together, they spent their life farming until selling the farm and moving to Lancaster. Dorothy was a member of the Lancaster Art Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn (Delbert) Walker; daughter-in-law, Sharon Cooley; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters: Gladys Esser; Lila Shaben; Verna Muller; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; son, Stephen; two sisters: Shirley Mink and Hazel Esser; four brothers: Lloyd, Robert, Allen Pete, and Herbert Robinson.

Helen M. Cooley

Helen M. Cooley, age 86, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Orchard Manor after a short illness. She was born on July 21, 1922 in Platteville, WI, the daughter of William and Cordelia (Holzer) Sherwin.

Helen was always a homemaker. Her mother died when she was six years old. She attended school in Platteville. When she was 14, Helen kept house for her father and brothers after her sisters left home. After her father died in 1941, she moved to Lancaster to live with her sister, Frances. Helen met and married Carl Cooley on November 18, 1942 and together they farmed in Beetown township for 40 years, raising a family of six children. They moved to Lancaster in 1982 as the sons took over the farm. They celebrated their 47^th wedding anniversary prior to Carls death in June of 1990.

Helen loved her family and looked forward to them dropping by and raiding her cookie jar for chocolate chip cookies or her apple pie. Even the grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew where to find them. She loved to babysit for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she felt that spoiling them was her job.

Helen was a member of the Beetown Busy Braves 4-H Club for many years and the Grant County Farm Bureau, serving on various boards. She was elected Mrs. Farm Bureau in 1981. Helen volunteered at the Lancaster Care Center, helping residents play bingo. She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church. Helen liked to play cards, bake, tend to her flowers and bum around as she put it. One of her favorite sayings was give me flowers now, not when Im dead.

Helen is survived by her six children: David Cooley, Bloomington, James (Gloria) Cooley, Lancaster, Barbara Cooley, Marion, IA, Michael (Geri), Gary Doc (Ann) and Kevin Cooley, all of Lancaster; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Frances Reuter, Platteville; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Cooley, Bloomington; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cooley and Kathleen Sherwin both of Lancaster and Jeanette Sherwin, Platteville

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; her sister, Geneieve Losch; four brothers, Clarence, Raymond, Guerdon and Donald Sherwin.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Robin I. Cooley-Place

Robin I. Cooley-Place, age 52, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at her home. She was born on June 13, 1959, in Darlington, the daughter of Duane and Patricia (Lange) Bloom. Robin graduated from Platteville High School in 1977. She married Kevin Cooley in Lancaster. After their marriage the couple farmed in rural Lancaster. On August 6, 2011, Robin was united in marriage to David Place in Lancaster. She enjoyed camping, reading, playing cards, outdoor country concerts and collecting pigs. Robin dearly loved spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Survivors include her husband, David Place, Lancaster; her children: Roger Cooley, Lancaster; Michelle (Jeremy) Becwar, Patch Grove; Kimberly Cooley, Green Bay; Kari (Marques) Hicks, Monticello; Corey Place, Belmont; eight grandchildren: Morgan Becwar, Kadance Cooley, Spencer Cooley, Drew Becwar, Gavyn Cooley, Hailey Becwar, Owen Hicks and Berlin Hicks; her siblings: Bonnie Bloom and Kathy Esser, both of Lancaster; Rick Bloom, Platteville; Bobby (Jane) Bloom, Bagley; Sherry Chandler, Platteville; other relatives and many friends.

Robin was preceded in death by her parents.

Anna L. Cooper

Anna L. Cooper, age 71, of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Patch Grove, died on Sunday, November 28, 2010, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien. She was born on January 2, 1939, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Joseph and Mildred (Eulgem) Ludvik, Sr. She attended school at. Johns School in Prairie du Chien. On December 21, 1957, Anna was united in marriage to Russell E. Cooper at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien. She was employed at Campion High School, Miniature Precision Components and Homeward Bound. Anna enjoyed putting picture puzzles together, socializing, and playing cards with family and friends.

Survivors include her children: Rusty (Terri) Cooper, Prairie du Chien; Sue (Roger) Konichek, Prairie du Chien; four grandchildren: Nicholas (Jodi) Cooper, Mt. Hope; Lindsey Cooper, Redwood Falls, MN; Crystal (Jesse) Bedward, Boscobel; Heather Konichek, Dubuque, IA; two great-grandchildren: Braylee and Jaeven Bedward; brothers and sisters; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, on May 12, 2003, and one brother and two sisters.

Bernice M. Cooper

Bernice Mae Cooper, age 80, of Patch Grove, died on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. She was born on December 23, 1931, in Seneca, the daughter of Ernest and Cynthia (Heisz) Messling. Bernice graduated from Seneca High School in 1949. On January 13, 1950, Bernice was united in marriage to Harry V. Cooper in Colorado Springs, CO. She was employed as a postal clerk at the Patch Grove Post Office for many years. Bernice was a member of the Patch Grove United Methodist Church. She enjoyed trapping, fishing, deer hunting, canning, gardening and playing Bingo. Bernice also enjoyed collecting angels and Mickey Mouse memorabilia.

Survivors include her six children: Dennis (Alfiya) Cooper, Mt. Hope; Rickie Cooper, Prairie du Chien; Janice (Larry) Rider, Prairie du Chien; Pamela (Randy) Dressler, Prairie du Chien; Jackie (Sylvia) Cooper, Millville; Connie (Alan) Ruff, Farmersburg, IA; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Julia Larmore, Platteville; one brother, Robert (Ruth Ann) Messling, Mt. Sterling; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Messling, Prairie du Chien; Rita Messling, Viroqua.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Bernice was preceded in death by five brothers: Paulie, Calvin Kelly, Edwin Buddy, Roger, and Ronnie Messling; a sister, Harriet M. Jeidy; and an infant sister, Helen.

Harry V. Cooper

Harry V. Cooper, age 85 of Patch Grove, died on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on September 16, 1923, in Bloomington, the son of Milton and Belva (Bohringer) Cooper. He graduated from Patch Grove High School in 1942. Harry enlisted with the United States Army and served during WW II, Korean War and the Cold War. On January 13, 1950, Harry was united in marriage to Bernice Messling in Colorado Springs, CO. He was a member of the Hanley Ariss Millin American Legion Post No. 5 of Patch Grove and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. Harry was a Postmaster at Patch Grove Postal Office for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Cooper of Patch Grove; his six children: Dennis (Alfiya) Cooper, Mt. Hope; Rickie Cooper, Patch Grove; Janice (Larry) Rider, Prairie du Chien; Pamela (Randy) Dressler, Patch Grove; Jack (Sylvia) Cooper, Patch Grove; Connie (Alan) Ruff, Farmersburg, IA; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harley, William, and Russell.

Leota M. Cota

Leota M. Cota, age 94, of Patch Grove, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. She was born on November 19, 1916, the daughter of Elgie and Roxia (Clark) Cooley. In 1934, Leota was united in marriage to Francis L. Cota at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Together they farmed in Wyalusing Township. She was a member of the Patch Grove United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Judith Thompson, Omaha, NE; sons: Merton Cota, Omaha, NE; Dennis Cota, Bagley, and Steven (Carol) Cota, Littleton, CO; her brothers: Keenan (Delia) Cooley, Bagley; Eugene (Mary Lou) Cooley, Woodman; along with eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Leota was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, a son, Eugene, a daughter Patricia Cota, and two brothers, Cecil and Alan Cooley.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 25, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington. Burial was in Brodtville Cemetery, Wyalusing Township. Mildred I. Crews

Mildred I. Crews, age 95, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 4, 2010, at the Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster.

She was born on February 20, 1915, in rural Green Lake County, Wisconsin, daughter of James Berdett Crook and Edith Amelia (Bazely) Crook. There she grew up and worked with her beloved farm family of eight siblings. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1933. From there she worked a variety of jobs and eventually moved in with her aging parents who had retired to Beaver Dam, during WWII. While living there, she joined the Womens Army Corps in 1943 and served in San Antonio, Texas as a control tower operator.

Mildred Millie I. Crews married Wallace Wally W. Crews in the Methodist Parsonage, Vancouver, Washington, on September 6, 1950. They lived in Oregon state until 1953, moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, finally settling in Lancaster, in 1966.

Millie loved to cook, sew, garden, and be outdoors. She was a very independent person, hard worker (a Jane of all trades), defender of those who had less, and always devoted to her beloved family and close friends. She was very humble, honest, forgiving, and loving, giving service to others with her whole heart. Her greatest joy was to spend time with her family.

She was a woman of faith and committed to her church family. A member of the United Methodist Church from 1966, she participated in the Ruth Circle, church choir, Sunday school, and several committees, including the memorial committee.

Millie worked as an Administrative Assistant at Unified Counseling in Lancaster, for 17 years, retiring on February 20, 1985. She volunteered at the Lancaster Memorial Hospital and was a hospice worker for three years. Millie has walked regularly for exercise since age 65, and continued to do so until her death. She also learned to ride a bicycle at age 65 and took several bicycle trips with her husband Wally.

After retiring, she participated in local, regional, and National Senior Olympic events with Wally from 1984 until his death in 1991, then continued to compete alone until 1997. The Nationals were held every two years beginning in 1986 and Millie participated in each one, including Syracuse, NY (1991), Baton Rouge, LA (1993), San Antonio, TX (1995), and Tucson, AR (1997). She was awarded many gold and silver medals. Millie and Wally traveled all over the United States. Millie loved spending time with her grandchildren, including attending their schools for events and giving talks on physical fitness, and telling her Senior Olympic stories.

Continuing with her physical fitness, Millie was a member of Americas Best Fitness Center in Lancaster from 1998-2004 where she made many close friends.

Until entering Morningside Assisted Living in 2003, Millie kept her own home, yard and garden despite the fact she was losing her eyesight. Morningside became her cherished home where she was well cared for and loved by many. There she became very active in the activities and social events, and made many friends.

Survivors include her children: Valerie I. (Charles Dolan) Curley of Platteville, WI; Warren T. (Elana) Crews of Kinderhook, NY; Marily B. (Douglas) Crews-Nelson of Madison, WI; and Wallys daughter, Carol (Crews) Van Ditti of Tolvana Park, OR. Also surviving are grandchildren: Jonah A. (Crystel) Curley, of Viroqua WI; Erin M. Curley of Madison, WI; Brian T. Curley of Madison, WI, Audrey (Hoffman) (Brian) Hanson of Jacksonville Beach, FL; Sadie B. Crews-Nelson, Madison; three great grandchildren children: Aja, Iris, and Finnegan; a special nephew Bobby Crook and other nieces and nephews.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings: Louise Maas, David Crook, Dorothy Quade, Elnora Spielvogel, Morris Crook, Helen Martin, Margaret Teletzke, and Robert Crook.

Shirley M. Crow

Shirley M. Crow, age 84, formerly of Platteville died from Alzheimers disease on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Madison. She was born on December 4, 1923 in Platteville, WI the daughter of Frank and Wanda (Peacock) Hellmer. Shirley graduated from Platteville High School in 1942. She married Donald Crow and they were later divorced. Shirley has lived in Bakersfield, CA and Nevada but Platteville was always home. The last four years, she has lived at the Ingleside Nursing Home in Mount Horeb.

Shirley worked as a nursing assistant at Grays Nursing Home in Platteville and an interior designer at Graves Paint and Paper. She was one of three founding members of the VFW Womens Auxiliary.

Shirley loved animals, was fond of the outdoors, enjoyed gardening and traveling and was an avid walker. Growing up she loved to swim at Big Rock. Shirley enjoyed a variety of music and dance, sewing, painting, doing crafts, refinishing furniture, and watching football. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Shirley is survived by two children: Stephen Crow and Karen (Crow) Burg, both of Madison; six grandchildren: Kimberly Melvin, Reedsburg, Jody Gates, Evansville; Phil (Annette) Crow, Monfort; Paul Crow, Madison; Anisha (John) Olsen, Stoughton and Andrea Burg, Madison; five great-grandchildren: Matthew Melvin, Ryan and Trina Olsen, Madisen and Mya Crow; a sister-in-law, Alyce Susie Hellman, McFarland; nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Corwin Tweet Hellmer.

Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville (100 Park Place, Platteville 608.348.2446) with the Reverend John Christianson officiating. Arthur J. Crubel

Arthur J. Art Crubel, age 86, of Bloomington, died on Friday, July 15, 2011, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on March 26, 1925, in Patch Grove Township, the son of Henry and Mary (Errthum) Crubel. Art attended St. Marys School. In 1949, Art and his brother, Harold, purchased a farm near Bloomington. Art helped build St. Marys Church and later, with the Holy Name Society, raised money to purchase a car for the nuns. On August 26, 1952, he was united in marriage to Ruth D. Wright at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington. Together they farmed until 1988 when they moved into Bloomington. He was employed with Bloomington Village for seven years. Art was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church the Holy Name Society, and served on the Blakes Prairie Fair Board for many years. He loved to farm. Art enjoyed the Toe Tappers, dancing, and playing cards. He also enjoyed teasing and visiting; he didnt go anywhere where he wasnt able to carry on a conversation with someone. He will be missed by many.

Daniel J. Crubel, age 55, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. He was born on August 29, 1961, the son of Milo and Mary Alice (Meyers) Crubel. Dan attended Bloomington High School. He farmed with his parents, brothers, and sisters, on the Crubel family farm. Dan was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington. He was a fan of the New England Patriots and enjoyed playing cards.

Dennis J. Crubel

Dennis J. Crubel, age 71, of Bloomington, died on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Prairie Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien. He was born on December 9, 1938, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Marvin and Hilda (Breuer) Crubel. Dennis graduated from Bloomington High School. In 1956, he entered the United States Navy and served his county for four years, stationed for some time in Puerto Rico. On October 13, 1962, Dennis was united in marriage to Brenda Brown at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Bloomington on his familys farm. The Crubel farm was named a century farm in 2010. Dennis enjoyed woodworking, but farming was his passion. He enjoyed lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Dennis collected antique tractors as well as toy tractors. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington and the Abraham Hickok Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington. Dennis loved his family and adored his grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew him.

Harold Crubel

Harold P. Crubel, age 87, of Bloomington, died on Monday, December 2, 2013, at his home. He was born on July 2, 1926, the son of Henry and Mary (Errthum) Crubel. Harold was drafted into the United States Army and served his country in the Philippines during World War II. On April 24, 1952, Harold was united in marriage to Carolyn M. Esser at St. Marys Catholic Church in Glen Haven. After their marriage, Harold along with his brother Art, owned and operated Crubel Farms. In 1970 Harold and Carolyn purchased the farm they currently operate. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and the American Legion Post No. 148 both of Bloomington. Harold enjoyed fishing and keeping up with his family and their activities.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; their children, Steve (Dale) Crubel and Cindy (Allen Gosdeck) Hoffman; six grandchildren: Mike (Julia), Tom (Andrea), Steven (Bri), Rob (Ashley) Crubel, Maria and Jeff Hoffman; ten great-grandchildren; his siblings: LaVerne (Mary Ann), Milo (Mary Alice), Roger (Ruth) Crubel, Norma (George) Smrcina,; a sister-in-law, Ruth Crubel; many members of the Esser Family and nieces and nephews.

Jean Marie Crubel, age 83, of Bloomington, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. She was born on August 9, 1930, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Charles and Marie (Tesar) Draka. On February 5, 1951, Jean married Gerald Jerry Crubel at St. Johns Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2000. Together they farmed near Bloomington for many years. Jean was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington. She enjoyed reading, cooking, spending time with her family, friends, and especially all of her grandchildren.

Survivors include her two sons: Jeffrey (Victoria) Crubel and James (Kelly) Crubel, both of Bloomington. Joseph V. Crubel

Joseph Joe V. Crubel, age 57, of Bloomington, passed away suddenly of a pulmonary embolism on Monday, December 8, 2014, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. Joe was a generous and giving man and even in death he gave the gift of life by being an organ and tissue donor. He was born on March 21, 1957, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Arthur J. and Ruth D. (Wright) Crubel. Joe attended St. Marys Catholic School and graduated from Bloomington High School. He then furthered his education at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College earning a degree in Ag Power. On May 28, 1977, Joe was united in marriage to Donna Marshall at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington. To this union, five children were born. After their marriage, the couple farmed with Donnas parents on their hog and beef farm. In 1982 until 1986, the couple then ventured out on their own, dairy farming near Patch Grove on the Norman Clark farm. In 1986 until 1997 they farmed the Keith Harville farm west of Patch Grove. In March of 1997, the couple purchased their own dairy farm on Brookens Road in Mt. Hope. In 1996, Joe began employment with Waste Management as a mechanic. In 2002, he worked for Prairie Sand & Gravel until 2005. Joe was employed with Town & Country Sanitation from June 2005 until August of 2013. Most recently, he was helping Steve Crubel with his lawn care business. In his free time, he would help his wife and son, Tyler, at Tylers Repair, Mt. Hope. Joe was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and the Bloomington Lions Club and a past member of the West Grant Rescue Squad. He loved his 57 Chevy pick-up and John Deere tractors. Joe enjoyed helping people, making people laugh and watching Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Rifleman and The Virginian. His grandchildren and his nieces and nephews were very dear to him. He was especially proud of his children and their accomplishments.

Mary P. Cuchna, age 86, of Bloomington, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster, WI.

​Mary was born January 28, 1929, to Al and Leila (Hampton) Neises. She graduated from Bloomington High School. In 1964, she married Arnold ''Coke'' Cuchna and they farmed in Millville Township for many years.

​Surviving are a daughter, Sheila (Kurt) Hampton, of Bloomington; a son, Rich (Maria) Cuchna, of Manchester, MD; and six grandchildren: Jillian and Kyle Hampton, Francesca and Nicholas Cuchna, Jennifer O'Rourke, and Joshua Jackley.

​She was preceded in death by her husband, Coke, in September 2014; her son, Jeff Jackley, in 2003; her parents, Leila, in 1967 and Al, in 1985; her sister, Betty Gessner, in 1982; and her brothers, James Neises, in 1977; Joseph Neises, in 1979; and Fritz Neises, in 1996.

John P. Cull

John P. Cull, age 62 passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, Guttenberg, Iowa. He was born July 18, 1950 in Prairie Du Chien, the son of Kenneth and Marie (Mergen) Cull. John graduated Bloomington High School in 1968. It was in that year that he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and eventually was stationed in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he attended Southwest Technical College in Fennimore and graduated with a mechanical degree. John enjoyed being a truck driver. He was employed for over twenty years at Ag Trucking in Dubuque, and most recently for Bausch Trucking, Glen Haven. He was an active member of both St. Marys Catholic Church and the American Legion Post No. 148 in Bloomington. John will be remembered as a loving father, devoted brother, loyal friend and someone who could always make people laugh.

Surviving is his daughter Annie M. Cull; a sister MaryAnn (Phil) Ryan; a brother Mick Cull; his fiance Rita Raisbeck and her daughter Tiffany; many nieces and nephews and his former wife Julie Metcalf Cull.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son James and a brother Dennis.

Helena A. Cummer, age 94, of Lancaster, died on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster. She was born on March 31, 1915, in North Lancaster, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Klein) Kasper. On August 26, 1946, Helena was united in marriage to Adrian J. Cummer. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Lancaster community. Helena was a member of St. Clements Catholic Church and enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting, quilting, baking, gardening and playing cards. She also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include her brothers: George Kasper, Naperville, IL; Robert (Barbara) Kasper, Elgin, IL; a brother-in-law, Albert (Gen) Cummer, Normal, IL; a sister-in-law, Betty Cummer, FL; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends, who were a very important part of Helenas life.

June E. Curley

June E. Curley, age 84, of Lancaster, died Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Orchard Manor in Lancaster. She was born on June 19, 1928, in Hurricane Township, the daughter of Clyde and Carrie (Ellis) Jackson. June graduated from Lancaster High School in 1945. On November 29, 1947, she was united in marriage to Paul Curley. After their marriage the couple resided in Lancaster, where June provided child care in their home. She had a special love for the children she cared for. June was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and going to garage sales. June also enjoyed collecting bears, frogs and green glass. Her greatest joy was her family.

June is survived by her children: Steve (Jen Salt) Curley, Madison; Cindy (Tom) Martens, Platteville; Kathleen Curley, Lancaster; Bruce (Linda) Curley, Browerville, MN; Paula (Dick) Champion, Fennimore; Richard (Mary) Curley, Madison; Lisa Cargill, Platteville; Amy (Doug) Noble, Lancaster; Jo Roling, Platteville; nineteen grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifford (Rosemary) Jackson; other relatives and many friends.

Floyd E. Curtis, age 89, of Lancaster, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster. Floyd, born January 18, 1922, in Dickeyville, was the eldest of four sons to Earl and Lucille (Hoffman) Curtis of Cuba City. He attended Casper School in Paris Township through eighth grade. Floyd and Marie Averkamp married in February 1944. Marie preceded him in death in November 1971. Floyd and Gloria (Ames) Winkler married in December 1973. Gloria and Joe Winkler were married in October of 1947; Joe preceded her in death in February 1971. Floyd and Marie were the proud parents of eleven children. Gloria and Joe were the proud parents of seven children.

Floyd loved the outdoors. He farmed a large part of his life, gardened most of his senior years including his last year and hunted and fished frequently in his free time. Floyd loved sharing his time with family and playing in any available Euchre game. He enjoyed traveling and traveled often in retirement. Floyd was a proud and avid member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Fourth Degree Knight. He lived most his life in southwestern Wisconsin and in the Minneapolis area a few years. Floyd and Gloria moved to Lancaster in 2000. Floyd also worked as an operating engineer for Edward Kraemer & Sons (road construction) from 1951 to his retirement in 1984.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Gloria, Lancaster; six sons and eight daughters - Susan (Ron) Thole, Lancaster; Eileen Kraemer, Lancaster; Ronald (Sandy) Curtis, Columbus; David Curtis, Crestview, Florida; Barbara (Kenneth) Thompson, Lancaster; Janet (Murray) Line, Fennimore; Michael Winkler, Bay City; Diane Noble, Lancaster; Thomas (Sharon) Curtis, Temple, Texas; Barbara (Donald) Biddick, Stitzer; Emily (David) Pitzen, Lancaster; Alice (Mike) Daddario, Apple Valley, Minnesota; Daniel Winkler and Vincent Winkler, both of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; 36 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and two brothers, Glenn (Marjory) of Cuba City, and Gerald (Millie) of Potosi.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Marie, his children: Caroline Curtis, Judith Sorenson, Joseph Winkler, and Gregory Curtis, grandchildren: Derik Kraemer and Nick Pitzen, a brother, Wilbert Curtis.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 11, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp and Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial was in St. Marys Cemetery, Bloomington. Family and friends called on Thursday, March 10, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster where a 3:45 p.m. scripture service will be held and a 4:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus service will be held. Friends also called on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, the family suggests memorials be offered to St. Clement Catholic Church, Lancaster or St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tennyson.
